5 Ways To Show Your Dog They Are Your One True Valentine

Spread the love

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, it’s important to remember that not all our loved ones want a bouquet of roses or dinner at a fancy restaurant. In fact, some don’t even stand on two legs!

Dogs are some of the most loyal and loving companions there are, and they want to know you adore and appreciate them too. Here are five ways you can truly show your furry Valentine you love them, with some special date activities included.

1. Be social.

Most dogs are social creatures and therefore enjoy playing and getting to know other doggies the same way you might enjoy going out with friends or meeting new people! Show your loved one a doggone good time this Valentine’s Day by interacting with other pups and their humans.

2. Stimulate their mind and body.

Many dogs these days are exercise-deprived. We tend to forget that even small breeds like dachshunds have been bred over the centuries to help humans work; some were trained to round up cattle, some were trained to hunt, and so much more. When we deny them this natural instinct, it is easy for them to become bored and frustrated and consequently pick up bad habits. Let your dog know you care by giving them a workout that is both physically and mentally demanding. They will appreciate it more than you know!

That means you could take them on an exploratory and engaging hike, or a long walk around a new neighborhood! If it’s warm where you live, you could go all out and make an obstacle course in your back yard! If it’s cold, then try a game of hide-and-seek (or as we like to say, “find da hooman”). The possibilities are endless!

3. Feed your dog well.

Scrumptious, satisfying food and treats always make a dog happy, just like us humans. Food nourishes both the body and soul! Just don’t overdo it. Your dog’s health is important too!

4. Communicate through loving, human touch.

You might not speak dog, but that doesn’t mean you can’t communicate with your pet. Dogs can tell how much you love them simply through how you interact with them.

Let your pup sit with you so you can give them a great belly rub, a massage, or lots of loving pets. If your dog enjoys grooming (or gets rather dirty after a long day of exercise and play), treat them to a dog spa day, or create your own spa day at home!

5. Get them a present!

Dogs, much like people, will never turn down a great gift from their loved ones. So you can’t go wrong with a Valentine’s Day surprise!
